Alberto Baillères Foundation
July 2023
On July 7, the Alberto Baillères Foundation welcomed educators and education authorities from the State of Mexico, Mexico City, and Yucatan to the Second National Meeting of Education Communities, whose subtitle was “Sharing the creation of our educational habitats.” The event recognized the work carried out by the 14 education communities with which the Foundation currently works and saw the kickoff of the collaborative creation of Accompaniment Plans for the 2023-2024 school year.
Attendees in Mexico City met at the headquarters of GNP Seguros, while those in Mérida met at the Yucatan Siglo XXI Convention Center. Both locations were remotely connected at all times. In total, more than 300 members of education communities (educators, supervisors, principals, and education authorities) in Ecatepec, Iztapalapa, and Kanasín attended the Meeting.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Frida Díaz Barriga, who addressed the issue of the new educational model and offered perspectives on how to work with these new standards following a project-based approach. Likewise, she outlined some methodological strategies for didactic planning, which was highly useful for educators.
Additionally, an integration conference focusing on self-recognition and recognition of others in order to strengthen teamwork was held by the organization Dédalo. Likewise, members of the Iztapalapa, Ecatepec, and Kanasín education communities shared their experiences and what they have learned during the rollout of the Foundation’s Social Model.
Working groups were subsequently organized in which each education community completed an exercise of reflecting on their achievements during the 2022-2023 school year, as well as the programs and accompaniment strategies that will be implemented during the upcoming school year. In addition to receiving guidance from Foundation staff, members of partner organizations also participated in this exercise. The information generated will be used to create each education community’s 2023-2024 Accompaniment Plan.
Prior to the end of the meeting, “Transforming as a Community” awards were presented in recognition of education communities’ initiatives and programs. Lastly, participants in Yucatan sent a message of peace to participants in Mexico City in the framework of the “Arte Marcial para la Paz” (Martial Arts for Peace) program that the Foundation implemented in recent months with the organization Yollotl.
