Fundación Alberto Baillères
June 2024
On June 6th, a formal ceremony was held to mark the handover of five rehabilitated schools in five education communities in Kanasín, Yucatan: Primaria América, Primaria Víctor Manuel Martínez Herrera, and Primaria José Vasconcelos (Primary Schools), as well as Secundaria Técnica 71 and Secundaria Técnica 81 (Technical Secondary Schools). In attendance were representatives of the Alberto Baillères Foundation and Grupo BAL, authorities from the Secretariat of Education of the Government of the State of Yucatan (SEGEY), municipal authorities, and members of the education communities.
At the beginning of each ceremony, a tour of the facilities was held to present improvements, which included the remodeling of restrooms, indoor and outdoor painting, renovation of door and window frames, rehabilitation of green spaces, plumbing and electrical maintenance, installation and activation of fans and air conditioners, and waterproofing, among others. New spaces were also built, including a playground, storage area, and a play room at Primaria América (Primary School); metal roofing for the sport field, play room, and storage area at Primaria Víctor Manuel Martínez Herrera and Primaria José Vasconcelos (Primary Schools); and a bleacher area for sport fields, perimeter fence, and educators’ restrooms at Secundaria Técnica 71 and Secundaria Técnica 81 (Technical Secondary Schools).
These renovations are the result of a joint effort between the Alberto Baillères Foundation and education and government authorities. Additionally, the education communities took part in various activities to improve their spaces, fostering a process of collaborative creation of dignified spaces that promote the human development of all community members. It should be noted that the Foundation and its strategic partners have accompanied these five education communities for the past two years to promote the development of their capabilities for autonomy and self-management, in this way seeking to guarantee the educational habitats’ sustainability.
In her remarks, Rosy Gluyas, Director General of the Alberto Baillères Foundation, emphasized the importance of school infrastructure in fostering safe, dignified, and inclusive environments. Likewise, she affirmed that the Foundation will continue to accompany these education communities in developing their capabilities so that they can strengthen their social ties and continue to create education environments of well-being.
Representatives of the Secretariat of Education of the Government of the State of Yucatan (SEGEY) and municipal authorities also spoke at the ceremonies, as did senior school staff, students, and family members, who expressed their commitment to maintaining and taking care of their educational habitat. At each school, a commemorative plaque was unveiled, and education communities presented musical and dance pieces they had prepared.
