Government of Sonora and the Alberto Baillères Foundation break ground on educational habitat in Caborca

Caborca, Sonora, September 9, 2025 – As part of its commitment to Caborca families to continue transforming Sonora through education and for the benefit of students in communities that have historically been left behind, Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño, in partnership with the Alberto Baillères Foundation, laid the cornerstone for an educational habitat in the rural community of La Y Griega, in the municipality of Caborca.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, the governor described creative collaboration between the Secretariat of Education and Culture (SEC), the Alberto Baillères Foundation, the municipal government of Caborca, and education communities aimed at fostering a sense of belonging and social cohesion.

Governor Durazo noted that this project will transform seven school facilities, benefitting more than 2,000 students and 115 educators at the primary, secondary, and upper secondary levels, with a grant of $316 million pesos provided by the Foundation.

“Today, we are laying the cornerstone of what will not only be a building, a structure, but a seedbed of hope; a seedbed of future professionals, future female mayors, female deputies, architects, female governors, and, in this age of women, female presidents of Mexico. Yes, we can!” said the governor.

Governor Durazo Montaño reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening partnerships between all levels of government and civil society in order to provide more and better opportunities for the education of Sonora’s children and young people who see education as a way to get ahead.

The groundbreaking ceremony was chaired by Alfonso Durazo, Governor of the State of Sonora; Paulina Ocaña Encinas, Chief of Staff to the Governor; Froylán Gámez Gamboa, Secretary of Education and Culture of Sonora; Abraham Mier, Mayor of Caborca; Alejandro Díaz de León, Board Member of the Alberto Baillères Foundation; Rosy Gluyas, Director General of the Foundation; José Octavio Figueroa García, Board Member of the Foundation; Juan Agüello Flores Real State Director of Grupo BAL; and representatives of students and parents.
