Handover of rehabilitated and expanded “Demetrio Rivero Triay” Primary School takes place in Kanasín, Yucatan

Noteworthy joint efforts made between education community and other strategic stakeholders to create environments of well-being and development

More than 400 children set to benefit from better spaces for learning and socialization

A handover ceremony on March 19, in Kanasín, Yucatan, celebrated the rehabilitation and expansion of facilities at the Primaria “Demetrio Rivero Triay” [Primary School], made possible by collaboration between members of this education community, the Alberto Baillères Foundation, and education and municipal authorities.

These improvements are the result of the will to transform demonstrated by senior, administrative and support staff, educators, students, and family members at the Primaria “Demetrio Rivero Triay”, alongside whom the Foundation has implemented its Social Model for capability development and the strengthening of their community ties. Over the course of several months, members of this education community organized to take on different tasks including cleaning and weeding of green areas, construction of flowerbeds, installation of concrete pavers, rehabilitation of the school’s shed, and leveling and painting of walls, among others.

Additionally, construction work was carried out on new facilities: restroom clusters, a cooperative, a playroom, classrooms, and the Regular Education Support Services Unit (USAER). Moreover, hallways, common areas, the multi-purpose sport court, classroom interiors, and administrative spaces were renovated, and maintenance was performed on the electrical service line. These improvements make it possible to open new classes for more children in Kanasín.

On an initial walkthrough, attendees were able to see the renovated facilities for themselves. Later, during a number of speeches, members of the education community committed themselves to continue cooperating in the care and maintenance of school infrastructure and furnishings. In this vein, the Foundation will continue accompanying them on their path toward greater autonomy and self-management in the sustainability of this educational habitat.

Participants at the handover event included Juan Enrique Balam Várguez, Education Secretary of the Government of the State of Yucatan; Rosy Gluyas, Director General of the Alberto Baillères Foundation; Juan Argüello, Real Estate Director of Grupo BAL; Irma Delmi Weosa, Kanasín city councilwoman; Maridelia Saucedo, Director of Well-being, Inclusion, and Social Responsibility at El Palacio de Hierro; and senior staff, students, and families of the Primaria Demetrio Rivero Triay.
