Alberto Baillères Foundation
November 2023
On November 21, 2023, the Alberto Baillères Foundation, alongside education authorities, educators, students, and families from Primaria Profr. Ponciano Rodríguez (Primary School) and Secundaria Héroes Navales Mexicanos (Secondary School), both located in the Xoco neighborhood of Mexico City, inaugurated multi-purpose sport courts at both schools. The rehabilitation of these spaces, which included the installation of a modular arched roof, was carried out based on the needs expressed by members of these education communities.
Thanks to these courts, students at both education communities will be able to participate in recreational activities and sports in more appropriate spaces that will enable improved coexistence. Rehabilitation work on the school infrastructure at Primaria Profr. Ponciano Rodríguez (Primary School) also included improvements made to bathrooms, the replacement of the school’s access gate, and maintenance of the electrical connection. At Secundaria Héroes Navales Mexicanos (Secondary School), the school’s main building was waterproofed and a mesh fence was installed on the walls that separate the school and Xoco’s church.
A notable feature of the activities set in motion in Xoco is the participation of Grupo BAL companies like El Palacio de Hierro and Profuturo. On the Friday before the inauguration of the multi-use courts, volunteers from these companies carried out cleaning and painting work in the different school spaces.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Rosy Gluyas, Director General of the Foundation, stressed the importance of joining forces and working as a community in order to transform spaces and create better conditions for human development. Likewise, educators, parents, and students took the floor to express their gratitude to the Foundation and their commitment to keeping school infrastructure in good condition so that current and future students will be able to enjoy it. At the end of the ceremony, a rally was held at the secondary school and dances were performed at the primary school to mark the start of activities on both multi-purpose sport courts.
In this way, the Alberto Baillères Foundation, in collaboration with the members of both education communities, is creating spaces of well-being conducive to integral development based on the approaches of the Social Model. Throughout the 2023-2024 school year, the Foundation will continue to accompany these education communities with socio-community strengthening activities in partnership with other civil society organizations including Fundación EDUCA, ProEmpleo, IBBY, YouthBuild, Educación para Compartir, and Proyecto Nuevo Maestro.
