Conscious of the fact that education is an instrument of well-being and collective development, the Autonomous Metropolitan University, Xochimilco campus (UAM-X), represented by its Chancellor, Dr. Francisco Javier Soria López, and the Alberto Baillères Foundation, represented by its Director General, Dr. Rosa Isela Gluyas Fitch, have signed a Collaboration Agreement. Under this agreement, the two institutions, both of which are committed to education as an agent of social transformation, will develop programs in research, use of scientific and technical information, training, and social service that will contribute to improving the skills, knowledge, and competencies in demand in the labor world.
The mission of UAM-Xochimilco — to provide higher education that meets social needs and to conduct research in the humanities and sciences that prioritizes national issues — aligns with the work the Foundation has undertaken since 2009 to create educational habitats by promoting community-based contexts of sustainable development that foster Mexico’s transformation through collective and continuous learning.
The agreement, coordinated by the Office of Engagement with the Public, Private, and Social Sectors within the Office of Academic Engagement and Advancement, headed by Dr. Irma Gabriela Anaya Saavedra, proposes a collaborative effort to establish the legal, administrative, and social conditions necessary for the development and implementation of specific projects to promote education.
Collaboration between the two institutions will contribute to the Foundation’s efforts to guarantee Mexican children and young people’s right to education by accompanying education communities in the joint creation of educational habitats through a Social Model based on a socio-community component through the strengthening and well-being of people who participate in the community life of schools, as well as the cooperation to improve the design, use, and maintenance of educational spaces and their infrastructure.
A permanent working group — made up of Dr. Anaya Saavedra; Jorge Oscar Rouqette Alvarado, Coordinator of Ongoing Education at UAM-X; Dr. Rosa Isela Gluyas; and Rashide Assad Atala, Deputy Director of Strategy and Innovation at the Foundation — will establish mechanisms for planning and executing courses, workshops, certificate programs, and seminars that will help certify the job competencies of those who complete these satisfactorily.
The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. María Angélica Buendía Espinosa, UAM-X Secretary; Dr. María del Pilar Berrios Navarro, Academic Secretary of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities; Rashide Assad Atala, Deputy Director of Strategy and Innovation at the Foundation; and Martha Patricia Chicharro Gutiérrez, education consultant for UNESCO Mexico.
