SEC: Government of Sonora reaffirms its social commitment to the historic transformation of education in Caborca

  • In partnership with the Alberto Baillères Foundation

Caborca, Sonora. March 11, 2026 – Education in Caborca will enter a new era with the signing of a Social Commitment Agreement between the Government of Sonora — through its Secretariat of Education and Culture (SEC) — and the Alberto Baillères Foundation, which promotes preservation and strengthening of the Plutarco Elías Calles School, Culture, and Sports Complex.

SEC head Froylán Gámez Gamboa emphasized that this historic project, supported by Governor Alfonso Durazo, will benefit the surrounding community with new sport fields, auditoriums, and improvements in the facilities of the rural community of La Y Griega.

Accompanied by Alberto Baillères Foundation’s Director General Rosa Isela Gluyas Fitch and Caborca Mayor Abraham David Mier Nogales, the state official signed the Social Commitment Agreement, which includes the participation of the senior staff and education community of the primary, secondary, and upper secondary schools it benefits.

In September 2025, the governor broke ground on this space, which represents a $316 million peso investment and is the result of his administration’s commitment to reinforce partnership between civil society and all three levels of government in order to provide more and better opportunities that will benefit the education of Sonora’s children and young people.

This project is based on the transformation of seven school facilities, benefiting more than 2,000 students and 115 educators at primary, secondary and upper secondary schools.

The Social Model of the Alberto Baillères Foundation seeks to strengthen education communities through liaising and accompaniment strategies, improving school infrastructure to create spaces of shared learning and holistic development.

The Model focuses on the organization of, participation in, and taking ownership of school spaces on the part of education communities.
